🎄 The countdown is on! December 1st is just around the corner and I cannot wait to see what you create with your Advent Skeins.

One of my favourite parts of the Advent tradition is picking out my project bag (usually from @sandybythelakeside ) and choosing the my pattern. In the past, I’ve often used my own tried and true sock recipe - "cozy Striped Socks" linked below. I love adding fun twists and decorative elements from other patterns to keep things fresh. This year, I haven’t fully decided yet, but here are a few patterns that have caught my eye.

COZY STRIPED SOCKS

This is my simple toe-up sock pattern for self-striping yarn. It incorporates a small heel flap and gusset as well as the Fish Lips Kiss heel (you could substitute this with the Shadow Wrap heel or other similar heels).

Cold Brew Socks

A basic vanilla sock recipe with a twist! It is perfect for self-striping sock yarns and adds a bit of fun to a finished pair of striped socks. It includes instructions for a 2x2 ribbing on the cuff, a German short row heel, and a wedge toe.

Heel Toe Do Si Do

Heel Toe Do-Si-Do is a great pattern for self striping yarn! The chevron pattern is only on the front of the sock, allowing for some mindless vanilla knitting along the back. This is a top-down pattern with a heel flap and gusset construction.

I do find I knit at a tighter gauge in this pattern, so for me I would go up a needle size.

Soxploration Shadow Wrap Heel

Afraid of knitting Socks? Then start here! This simple, full length vanilla sock pattern is designed for the beginner (and fun for the experienced sock knitter too). The pattern includes a Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel and the basics of sock knitting video tutorials.  Once you replace the fear with understanding, you will be knitting socks in no time.
